
The funding package for our graduate programs may consist of a combination of internal and external awards, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships.
Major external awards include:
- Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral (CGRS D) Program
- Canda Impact + Research Training Awards
- Canada Graduate Scholarship Master's (CGS M) Program
- Please note: In order to apply for the CGS M Program, an application to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology’s MSc program must be submitted by December 31
Major internal awards include:
- Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF): The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) is awarded to top incoming and current PhD applicants and transferring MSc students. The fellowship provides financial support of $18,200 per year plus tuition for up to four years of doctoral studies.
- Zymeworks Fellowship: Zymeworks Inc., a leading biotechnology company in British Columbia focused on immunotherapeutic research and development, partnered with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Michael Smith Laboratories to launch this fellowship. One graduate student from each department is selected each year to be awarded a $20,000, one-year fellowship to support their contributions to the discovery and development of immunotherapeutics.
Teaching Assistantships
All graduate students are expected to complete one full teaching assistantship (192 hours) or equivalent. This teaching assistantship may make up part of the student’s yearly funding package.
