Accessibility & Accommodation

  • Centre for Accessibility - The Centre for Accessibility facilitates disability-related accommodations and programming initiatives designed to remove barriers for students with disabilities and ongoing medical conditions in all aspects of university life.
  • Resources for Students with Disabilities - The Centre for Accessibility provides non-academic accommodations and services including mobility training for students with visual impairments and priority placement for on-campus housing.
  • Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities
  • Stay at Work/Return to Work Program (Staff, Faculty) - Support at work due to a medical condition or disability.
  • Safewalk – If you feel unsafe getting from point A to point B on campus after dark, the Safewalk team has walking and driving teams that can accompany you at any time.

Advocacy

  • Equity & Inclusion Office  – Support for interpersonal conflicts and legal advice. 
  • AMS Advocacy Office - The Advocacy Office was established in 1999 to provide information and support to students facing the bureaucratic challenges and disciplinary committees of UBC.
  • Graduate Students Advocacy - The GSS focuses on the policy issues that matter most to graduate students and collects data in many ways to ensure that they are meeting these needs.
  • Ombudsperson Office - The UBC Office of the Ombudsperson for Students is an independent, impartial and confidential resource to assist students in addressing and resolving concerns about unfair treatment at UBC.
  • Student guide to discrimination and harassment - UBC contact for if you experience human-rights based discrimination or harassment. 
  • UBC Student Services Bullying & Harassment Statement - Advice and resources on creating and fostering a learning environment that is free of all forms of discrimination and harassment.

Anti-Racism Support

  • Anti-Racism Support Resources (AMS) – Mental health, safety, and educational resources from the UBC Alma Mater Society, who seeks to ensure that anti-racist action is intersectional and actionable.
  • Anti-Racism Resources (Asian Studies) – Links to resources, news stories, opinion pieces, and scholarly articles on race in Asian, or in Asian diaspora communities.

Gender Diversity

  • Gender Diversity at UBC - Designed to help students, staff, and faculty learn about different aspects of gender diversity and to find information about UBC’s systems, policies, and practices (including information on names, pronouns, transgender health, and facilities).

Indigenous Community Support 

  • UBC Vancouver Indigenous Portal - Your pathway to learning about UBC’s commitment to Indigenous engagement at its Vancouver campus and an information resource for Indigenous students, faculty and the wider community.
  • Indigenous Strategic Plan (ISP) - UBC has begun to implement its Indigenous Strategic Plan (2020), taking a leading role in the advancement of Indigenous peoples’ human rights.  
  • First Nations and Indigenous Study Guides - UBC Library tools to help get you started and learn more about the languages, histories, geographies, and contemporary experiences of Indigenous peoples.  
  • How do I get started? Creating safer learning environments for Indigenous students in STEM at UBC  
  • Talking about Indigenous Issues in the classroom - What I Learned in Class Today: Aboriginal Issues in the Classroom is a research project that explores difficult discussions of Aboriginal issues that take place in classrooms at the University of British Columbia.  
  • CTLT Indigenous Initiatives Newsletter - This newsletter is sent out monthly with topics of interest that include past and future events, links to stories published on their site, and media/articles that caught the CTLT team’s attention during that month. This one page newsletter brief serves to help others learn more about CTLT's news, events, and resources related to Indigenous engagement across UBC campus.  
  • CTLT Indigenous Initiatives Virtual Coffee Drop-ins - Do you have questions about how to thoughtfully integrate Indigenous content and representation into your course work? Curious about how to offer meaningful land acknowledgements in online meetings or events at UBC? Indigenous Initiatives’ Virtual Coffee Drop-ins are great place to explore these topics, connect with others on the same learning path, or just get to know our team.

Religion

  • Religious Accommodation and Days of Significance - This calendar includes religious holidays, significant events and celebrations, public holidays, and other important dates that should be considered when planning events and activities.
