Marcia Graves
Associate Professor of Teaching
I take a learner-centered and inclusive approach to teaching. In developing curriculum, I focus on creating learning environments that promote metacognitive awareness and intrinsic motivation, so that students have agency in their learning process. I have a special interest in helping students build scientific process skills and a sense of belonging in science. I am involved in scholarly educational research on how students engage with and evaluate the primary literature, the role of instructor feedback on developing scientific writing skills, and in designing course-based undergraduate research experiences to increase equitable opportunities for students to authentically “do science.”
