Seminar Title: Ocean oxygen loss—past, present, and future
Abstract: Dr. Crowe’s seminar will highlight new and recent findings from student and postdoc led science that capture the breadth of ongoing research in his lab. Highlights include collaborative research on marine microorganisms, type 1 diabetes, the early Martian biosphere, and critical mineral exploration and discovery. Dr. Crowe will then synthesize emerging perspectives on ocean deoxygenation, informed by studies both in ancient and modern oceans. These collectively demonstrate that ocean deoxygenation represents an imminent threat to planetary and human health that must be better studied and monitored, and then addressed through climate mitigation.
