Adaptive immunity at the immuno-metabolic interface
Chronic inflammation in disease states impairs metabolic-immune cross-talk. Dr. Tsai previously identified insulin signalling as a regulator of adaptive immunity, and current efforts are underway to study how insulin resistant states intrinsic to B and T cells impair protective immunity against tumor and respiratory infection. In a separate arm of research, the Tsai team examines how maternal humoral immunity imprints offspring autoimmune diabetes development. The overarching goal of the Tsai research program is to unravel the mechanisms underlying impaired immunity and tolerance in metabolic diseases.
